My kids were raised on formula, given vaccines, don't eat organic 95% of the time, and are doing just fine. I feel like in this day an age there is so much shaming that goes on with people judging others for the way they raise their kid.
Not every family can have a mom who breastfeeds. My case, I have several reasons why I don't. The first - I'm on medicine for my depression I don't want to pass through breast milk to my son. Second - I simply do not produce enough - even with Fenugreek supplements and a lactation nurse who worked with me for weeks with Faith, my babies were starving. Third - I'll be returning to work full time to a stressful job and we all know stress impacts milk availability. Fourth- it will be easier for my child in the long run to have someone other than mama help take care of him. Fifth - flat out honest here, it hurt the whole time. (I know it's not supposed to but when your baby is drinking blood and not milk you gotta wonder if your baby order was for a vampire and not a human.)
WHY can't this be OK for people? I truly don't understand the shame game. I support mamas who choose to breastfeed if that works for them. I support mamas who bottle feed because that's what works for them. WHY can't we just accept people for what they choose to do and not try to fear monger them into living your lifestyles?
The other thing that has me in a mess is people claiming vaccines kill children or give them autism. The autism one has been debunked and the guy who wrote the "research" has retracted. And EVEN IF it DID cause Autism, what's worse? A dead kid or a kid with a handicap? Children are dying because of something as simple as Measles, prevented by a vaccine if given to them. I got the whooping cough vaccine while pregnant to pass those antibodies to my son. Do I feel guilty? No, not in the slightest. I'm doing what I can to protect my kids in a way I see fit.
I get so mad over people posting things to frighten others. Let people live their best life, the best way they know how. The world doesn't need more division. I don't believe everything I read on the internet. I've learned to trust my gut. And it's done well so far.
